wendysIn 2015 Paris will see the opening of an Aldi grocery store and a Wendy’s restaurant.

Aldi will be located in the old Hasting’s building in the Paris Town Center.  City Manager John Godwin said the grocery chain is hoping to open in April 2015.

“It’s a chain that’s expanding and they saw Paris as a good market.  They should be really good in town.  They’ll be a real asset.  They were hoping to open this time this year but had some delays on the corporate level.  Currently they’re remodeling the front and the back for accessibility and storage.  They told us last year they were coming, and got the property platted.  In the last few weeks we’ve confirmed they are still coming,” he said.

There was some concern about whether or not Aldi would be building a store after all because plans had been put on hold, but it proved to just be an undisclosed delay.

The restaurant chain Wendy’s will open some time in 2015 as well.  It will be located near the La Quinta Inn on northeast loop 286.

Regarding the site where Wendy’s will be built, City Manager Godwin said, “The property was re-zoned by the city council last week.  They’ve still got a good bit of work to do because they’ve got some drainage issues there.  There used to be a flood way that goes through the middle of the property.  You’re not allowed to build on a flood way.  You can build on a flood plain but not a flood way.  The flood way’s been moved but FEMA has to approve a map revision. That’s what they’re waiting on. That’s been in front of FEMA for a couple of months.”

Once the map revision has been approved, Wendy’s construction will begin soon after in 2015.
