2013-04_MrsRainey_3x5Annie Sue Briscoe Rainey, 91, passed away April 24, 2013 in Lubbock, Texas. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 4, 2013 at Meadowbrook Gardens Memorial Park, with family friend Rev. Stace McEwin officiating.

Sue was born September 13, 1921 in Pecan Gap to Essie May Looney and Walter Seymour Briscoe. She married Oscar Lowry Rainey on January 14, 1939 in Hugo, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1988.

During the WWII years Sue helped her sister-in-law Myrl run the Little Rainey Café on North Main while their husbands, O.L. and Ebb, transported soldiers to and from training at Camp Maxey. Later, Sue began working in the lab at McCuistion Hospital. After she passed additional medical technology exams she went to work at the Lamar County Hospital and became an x-ray technician. Through her connections at the hospital she became the office manager for Dr. Joe Hillhouse. In the early ’50s Sue was the office manager for her husband’s construction business and when they sold the business, the two of them began developing property in Paris. Property development led to Sue’s career in real estate, first as an agent, becoming a broker and owner of Sue Rainey Realtors. A fun-loving, active lady she enjoyed bowling, participated in league competitions and was a very successful bingo player. In 1982 she moved to North Richland Hills, kept her real estate license and continued her many activities like Bible studies and swimming. Her move to Lubbock in 2006 led her to the Garrison House where she enjoyed interacting with the residents. In April 2008 Sue was one of the founding members of the newly chartered Francis Rainey Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution with her granddaughter Donna Filippone van Weerelt as Organizing Regent. Sue loved and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, shopping and will be remembered for her great sense of humor.

In addition to her husband O.L., she was preceded in death by a son-in-law Dr. John Filippone in 2009.

Mrs. Rainey is survived by her daughter Linda Sue Rainey Filippone; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Donna Suzanne van Weerelt, her husband Johannes and their soon-to-arrive twin boys; John Lowry Filippone, his wife Cassandra and their children John Michael, Lucas James and Jude Hennigan; Paul Brian Filippone, his wife Cynthia and their children Lucia Francesa and Andrew Oscar; sister-in-law Ruby Briscoe and many nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews.

Imogene Wilson0001Imogene Tidwell Wilson, 89, of Paris, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Carriage House Manor Assisted Living in Sulphur Springs.

Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 4th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Blake & Rev. Jay Porterfield officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery at Deport. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wilson, the daughter of James Benjamin & Josephine Westbrook Tidwell, was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Deport. Following the death of her mother when Imogene was only thirteen months old, she was reared by her aunt & uncle, Lucy Jane & William Edward Roberts. When she was eleven her aunt passed away and her cousins, Goldie Alsobrook, Alton Roberts, Venice Bryson and Buck Roberts assisted in her rearing. They have all preceded her in death.

On Nov. 25, 1939, she married Austin Wilson, and he preceded her in death on June 20, 1964. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jean Wilson, a grandson, Austin Shane Wilson, her father, sisters; Estelle Cheshire, Lela Westbrook, and Margaret Martin, and half-brothers; Norman Tidwell, Lloyd Tidwell and Virgil Tidwell.

In 1952, she began her career with Westinghouse/Phillips Lighting which spanned thirty-six years before her retirement in 1988. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Jim Wilson & wife Joy of Sulphur Springs, a grandson, Jay Wilson of Paris, a granddaughter, Brandy Wilson & partner Theresa Bullock of Memphis, TN, a step-grandson, Jay Porterfield & wife Amber of Murphy, great grandchildren; John Austin Wilson & Colton Shane Wilson both of Paris, Castleton Porterfield, McCleary Porterfield and Noelle Porterfield all of Murphy, a brother, Herschel Tidwell of McComb, MS, a sister, Helen Fleming of Burkburnett along with several nieces & nephews and a host of friends.

skidPNLouise Miears Skidmore, 87, of Paris passed away Tuesday April 30, 2013 at Brentwood Terrace. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday May 3, 2013 at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Glyn Vickers officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to service.

She was born in Red River County to James Andrew and Claudia Ann Boren Miears. She married G.L. (Jelly) Skidmore in Lamar County on May 21, 1945. She was employed by First National Bank of Paris and the Citizens State Bank. She and Jelly started Jelly Skidmore Trucking Co. in 1966 where she served as secretary and treasurer for 30 years. She was a member of the Blossom 42 Club and also a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence, Johnny, Marcus and Jack Miears; sisters Florence Baxter, Eloise Barrett and Gladys Whitten.

She is survived by a son Craig Skidmore and wife Donna of Paris; grandchildren Staci Marie Hughey and husband Billy Bob of Detroit; Adam Skidmore of Tyler; great granddaughter Kalli Hughey; brother, Billy Miears and wife Opal and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Adam Skidmore, Billy Bob Hughey, James Paul Miears, Tommy Whitten.


Jerry Wayne Gage, 70 of Lubbock, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

A graveside service has been set for Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Shady Grove Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Mackey officiating. The family will receive friends at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry Lee Gage and Danny Ray Gage and wife LeAnn; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bobby Gage and J.E. Gage; sisters, Mary Dollins and husband Gary, Charlotte Hess and husband Larry, Virginia Byrd, Bertha Hess and husband Alton, Brenda Elem, Patricia Farris and husband Dewayne, C. Jean Gage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Nora Gage; brother, Charles Gage.

The family will be gathering at the Hess residence at 150 49th S.E.
