At the Reno City Council meeting on Monday December 8th, the Reno City Council approved the reclassification of the Public Safety Officer position within the city’s police department in order to change that position to an additional police position for the city.
In order to accommodate this change, the job descriptions for its police officers were changed to include the animal control and code enforcement duties that were being performed by the Public Safety Officer. This change will now make the officers responsible for those duties within the city of Reno. The Public Safety Officer position has been open since June.
This reclassification was designed to make the department more efficient by having all of its officers be responsible for all the duties within the department, instead of having specialized employees only responsible for certain tasks. Reclassifying this position also gives the department more options for preventative patrols.
