Glenda Fern Rumbo, 83, of Paris, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Heritage House of Paris Healthcare Center. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled funeral services for 2:00 pm, Monday, December 22, 2014 at First Baptist Church—Paris with Reverend Ken Cannon officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to service time.
Glenda was born June 24, 1931 in Eldorado, Oklahoma to Judge C. Hollingsworth and Ora Pittman Hollingsworth, and it was in Eldorado where she attended school and worked in her parents family-owned restaurant. She married Marvin Rumbo in 1948 and they then moved to Dumas, TX. Marvin was a construction superintendant and worked for Eby Construction Company.
Glenda and the Rumbo family were transferred to fourteen cities during this time so that Marvin could supervise construction work. Cities where they lived were Eldorado, OK; Dumas, TX; Wellington, KS; Wichita, KS; Tulsa, OK; Omaha, NE; Moberly, MO; DeQueen, AR; Arkadelphia, AR; Boca Raton, FL; Chanute, KS; Newton, KS; Alexandria, LA; Basalt, CO; Clear Lake, TX and Paris, TX.
After retirement in Paris, as well as being a homemaker, Glenda enjoyed working as a Mary Kay Cosmetic consultant, from 1977 to 2013. She volunteered to serve in First Baptist Church, helped the Paris Hospital as a RSVP receptionist and became a member of several local Women’s Charitable Clubs. She was active in church activities all of her life. In Paris, Glenda served as First Baptist Church Children’s Nursery Care Giver Coordinator for many years, RSVP Hospital Information Desk Volunteer for over 15 years, was a member of the Newcomers and Kiwaniannes Clubs in Paris and a Cub Scouts of America Den Mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin in 2001, building over 53 years of family and memories; her parents; father-in law and mother-in-law, Jack and Alvis Rumbo; brothers-in-law, Roy Rumbo and Bob Rumbo and her second husband, of six years, Joe Julian.
Survivors include her children, Cecil Rumbo & wife Kim of Paris, Donna Rubin & husband Sammy of Pinson, AL, Jim Rumbo & wife Diane of Phoenix, AZ and Mary Henry & husband Bryan of Richardson, TX; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Rev. Jim Hollingsworth & wife Carolyn of Wichita, KS; a sister-in-law, Peggy Rumbo of Idalou, TX, along with a host of friends.
