Obituaries for Sunday, December 21

sims001Annie Lois Sims of Powderly, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 18, 2014.  The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the funeral home.  Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Ellis and Pastor Brad Crosswhite officiating.  The burial ceremony will take place at Long Cemetery in Powderly, Texas directly following the service.

Annie Lois Sims was born on January 13, 1948 in Powderly, Texas to Mary and Arthur Tucker.  Annie graduated from Paris High School in 1966 where she was Student Council Secretary, and a local, area and state FHA officer.  She was also a National Honor Society member.  Furthering her education, she attended Paris Junior College where she was on Student Council and helped secure the funds to build the school sign that everyone sees today.  She then went to East Texas State University where she was on the Dean’s Education Council, was a member of Sigma Tau Delta, and was a part of the Honorary English Society.    Annie became an officer in the Student Teacher’s Organization.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and later went on to receive a Masters in Education.

Annie Lois accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Ramseur Baptist Church. Annie married Mike Sims on August 2, 1969, and they were happily married for 45 years.  After getting married, she attended First Baptist Church of Paris for 25 years.  While attending there, she took several mission trips and was also on the committee that helped build the Family Life Center.  Annie then attended East Paris Baptist Church for 18 years.  Mike and Annie are currently members of Leesville Baptist Church.

Annie Lois wanted to thank all of her fabulous teachers listed as follows: Mrs. Wilson, Ms. Moo Maw, Mrs. Lancer, Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Shiver, Mrs. Kennemer, Mr. Geer, Mr. Casey, Mrs. Bassano, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Crane, Mrs. Shipman, Mr. Nixon, Mrs. Muse, Mr. Stevens, and Mrs. Stewart.  In typical Annie Lois style, she said that she wouldn’t mention the few bad ones.  The best principal that she ever worked for was Joel D. Casey, and one of her best bosses was Jimmye Hancock.

Annie Lois Sims is survived by her husband Mike Sims, her mother Mary Tucker, her son Matthew Sims and wife Christena, her daughter Annie Laurie Geer and son-in-law Joshua Geer, her sister Yvonne Parson, her sister Jimmie Tucker, her sister-in-law Marcia Woods and husband Thomas Woods, her father-in-law Vernon Sims, her numerous nieces and nephews, and last but not least, her adorable grandniece Tabitha King whom she thought of as a granddaughter.  She was preceded in death by her father Arthur Tucker, her mother-in-law Christene Sims, as well as granddaughter Bailee Sims.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Sims, Jeremy Armstrong, Josh Armstrong, Austin Parson, Travis King, and Michael Conte.

A special thanks to her husband, her mother, her children, her family, and her friends for love and good memories.

Zelma Juanita Wear 73, of Paris, died at 6:56 AM, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Paris Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services are set for 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Word of Life Fellowship with Rev. Jerry McDowell officiating.  Burial will follow in Knights of Honor Cemetery in Blossom.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.  Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Juanita was born June 24, 1941 in the Pinhook Community of Red River County, Texas to William “Bill” Bailey and Gracie Mollie Honnel Wear.  She was retired from Neiman-Marcus in Dallas after 25 years of employment.  She was a member of Word of Life Fellowship.

She is survived by her daughter, Trena R. Hackler; three grandchildren, Michael James Hooten, Christy R. Spencer, and Monica G. Spencer; two great-grandchildren, Trenton L. Barnett and Trinity G. Gilbert; five brothers, Billy J. Wear and wife, Linda, Melvin Wear and wife, Wanda, Raymond Wear and wife, Lisa, Bobby Wear and wife, Joy, and Donald G. Wear and wife, Ruth; two sisters, Lemmie Mae Chennault and Greta V. Baker and husband, Bobby; a sister-in-law, Bettye Wear; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Joe Hooten and two brothers, Jimmy C. Ward and Charles T. Wear.

Pallbearers will be Chris Wear, Phillip Chennault, Ronnie Wear, Bryan Wear, Michael James Hooten, and Justin Huddleston.
