Lamar County Crime Stoppers is celebrating January 2015 as Crime Stoppers Month. Lamar County Crime Stoppers has celebrated January as Crime Stoppers Month since 1998 by doubling rewards up to $1,000 maximum for information submitted during January that leads to the arrest of a suspect or suspects wanted for criminal activity.
January of each year has been celebrated as Crime Stoppers Month since officially being proclaimed in September 1986 at the Crime Stoppers International conference in Edmonton, Alberta. It is a time when Crime Stoppers programs around the world highlight their success.
Lamar County Crime Stoppers tips have led to the arrest of 2,096 suspects and cleared 3,725 cases. Rewards totaling $308,000 have been paid to 1,010 tipsters. Property with a value of $2,135,259 has been recovered, and drugs and narcotics with a value of $977,627 have been seized due to Lamar County Crime Stoppers tips.
But statistics are not the only value that Crime Stoppers should be judged upon. Other benefits include increasing community awareness, the interest of citizens to become involved with crime fighting, and an improved relationship between law enforcement, media and citizens.
Crime Stoppers has been a success since 1976 when a young Albuquerque police detective became frustrated when he could not solve a brutal murder. Since that time Crime Stoppers has expanded into all fifty states and numerous foreign countries. Lamar County Crime Stoppers has served Lamar County since 1986 and Red River County since 2013.
Lamar County Crime Stoppers has been recognized by the Texas Office of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division as one of the best Crime Stoppers programs in the State of Texas. Crime Stoppers USA recently recognized Lamar County Crime Stoppers as having the best Crime Stopper website in the United States.
During 2014, Lamar County Crime Stoppers celebrated the 25th Annual Crime Stoppers Rodeo and the 1st Lamar County Crime Stoppers/Lamar County Chamber of Commerce Dancing with the Stars. Both were successful fundraisers due to the support of citizens of Lamar and Red River County.
Lamar County Crime Stoppers has completed its first year of serving Red River County with a Crime Stoppers program. The Lamar County Crime Stoppers Campus program includes Chisum, as well as Paris and Roxton ISD who both recently joined.
Several local governmental entities have already issued proclamations declaring January to be Crime Stoppers month and more will be doing so in the next few weeks. You can view these proclamations on the Lamar County Crime Stoppers website.
