dadLuther Jenkins (Jinks) Renfro of Paris passed away on Monday, January 5th at Legends Nursing Home.  A funeral service will be held at Fry-Gibbs on Thursday, January 8th at 2:30 pm with Ben Read officiating.  Burial will be following at Forest Chapel Cemetery with masonic graveside services.  Viewing is scheduled prior to the service

Jinks was born on June 13, 1937 in Forest Chapel to Prentiss (Pete) and Elsie Renfro.  He graduated from Chicota High School in 1955.  He was a long time resident of Lamar County and the owner and proprietor of Renfro Welding for over 50 years.  Jinks married Nancy Renfro on January 24, 1987, and they enjoyed 27 years of happy marriage.

Jinks is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his children, Dennis Renfro and wife Doxie, Elizabeth Redus, Julie Norris, Michael Bright, and Cherie Floyd and her husband Austin.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Dennis Renfro, Shane Renfro, Jeremy Renfro, Joey Renfro and wife Courtney, Ashley Roberson, Bailey Redus, Mallory McDade, Lindy Norris, Sydney Floyd, and Kacy Floyd as well as 16 great grandchildren.  He was a beloved Pawpaw to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Prentice and Elsie, and his son, Pete.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

LipscombJames A. “Jim” Lipscomb, 64, of Reno, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Medical City Dallas while surrounded by his loving family.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 2:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9th, at the United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Robert Myre & Jordan Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Jim, the son of A. V. & Eris Friday Lipscomb, was born Nov. 23, 1950, in Texarkana, Texas.

He and his wife, Dot, were foster-parents and influenced the lives of many children, several of which to this day call him Dad.

Jim’s career as an electrical technician with Kimberly-Clark spanned twenty-two years. He was a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church where he had been a music minister and choir director. Jim’s desire was to travel and minister the Word in song.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kyle Dillon Lipscomb on Aug. 18, 2013, and by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Sue “Dot” Lipscomb, whom he married on April 28, 1973, building forty-one years of family and memoires, two daughters, Tamara Lipscomb Smallwood & husband Phillip and Natalie Lipscomb Coco & husband Brad, grandchildren, Madelyn, Annabelle, Caroline & Elijah Smallwood and Ethan & Aubrey Coco, three brothers, Russell Lipscomb & wife Theresa, Gerald Lipscomb & wife Bernice and Warren Lipscomb & wife Cheri along with a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a plethora of friends.

deesBrenda Sue Dees 60, of Reno, went home at 6:23 AM, Monday, January 5, 2015 at Paris Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 9, 2015 at Calvary United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Read officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Longview at 2:30 PM Friday with Rev. Mike Fortenberry officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.  Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Brenda was born February 19, 1954 in Kilgore to Shulah Keeton and Julia Owen Murray Greene.  She graduated from Kilgore High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tyler Junior College.  She was a radiologic technologist having worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and recently retired from Texas Oncology of Paris.

Mrs. Dees was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two children, Susan Stradiotto and husband, Reno of Prior Lake, Minnesota and Samuel Ray Dees and wife, Cari of Reno; four grandchildren, Mackenzie Kate, Keeton Richard, and Payton Reno Stradiotto, and Cord Matthew Dees; aunts, Bobbye Jean Greene and Mary Jane Burkey and families; an uncle, Wesley Murray; and a host of close family friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard Murray Greene.

The family would like to say thank you to the father of her children, Ray Dees for his love and support.

Honorary pallbearers are Jay Grizzle, Ray Dunlap, Johnny Mack Dees, Greg Yorkson, and David Hedrick.

barrownpSYBIL MARIE HIGHTOWER BARROW, 89, of Powderly, passed away Sunday January 4, 2014 at Legend Healthcare Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday January 8, 2015 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Semple officiating.  Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Barrow was born on October 20, 1925 in Italy, Texas a daughter of Hubert Hightower and Sarah Emily Turner Hightower.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother who enjoyed horseback riding, fishing and bowling. After her retirement in 1973 from Texas and Pacific Railroad in Ft Worth following twenty years of service, she moved with her family to Longview to enter into partnership with her husband to purchase the Foremost distributorship, East Texas Foods.

She attended Texas Christian University and was a member of Eastern Star, and the Women’s Association of Allied Beverage Industries. She was president of American Business Women’s Association. She was active in politics working on John Connally’s campaign for governor and Ronald Reagan’s campaign. She was named Woman of The Year by the Transportation Club of Fort Worth.

Mrs. Barrow was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Sarah Hightower; a brother, Hershel Hightower; and a nephew, Dr. Dan Glasgow.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-four years, Loyd Barrow; two daughters, Sandra Timmerman and Nancy Coons and husband Larry; grandchildren David Shearer and wife Sandra, Shanna Street and husband, Michael,  Harley Coons and wife Sara, Nicole Barnett and husband Ryan, Aaron Coons and wife Whitney; great-grandchildren Ashley Thompson, Jessica Holub and husband Justin, Stephanie Street, Christopher Shearer, Miranda Street, Jason Street  Mikayla Street,  Payton Barnett, Tyler Barnett, Austin Coons and Grayson Coons; one great-great-grandchild, Bryson Thompson; a sister, Sarah Bost and husband John;  a brother, Harold Hightower and wife, Peggy; and two nieces.

Named to serve as pallbearers are Charles Dejoux, Bobby Dejoux, Ross Dejoux, Harley Coons, Aaron Coons and Christopher Shearer.  David Shearer is named an Honorary Pallbearer.

Elmer Leon Lohrey 95, of Crossett, Arkansas, formerly of Paris, died Thursday, January 1, 2015 in El Dorado, Arkansas.  Graveside services are set for 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Mike Fortenberry officiating.  No formal visitation hour will be observed.  Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Elmer was born April 19, 1919 in Otero County, Colorado to Russian immigrants, Adam and Pauline Ochs Lohrey.  He retired from civil service as a mechanical technician.

He is survived by one son, Rick Lohrey of Sumner; a daughter, Sharon Garner and husband, Bob of White Oak, Texas; three grandchildren, John Lohrey and wife, Amanda of Rowlett, Jeff Garner and wife, Nina of Hallsville, and Sherri Lacy and husband, Chris of Houston; four great-grandchildren, Caleb and Cayden Lohrey of Rowlett, Hailey Garner of Hallsville, and Ryan Lacy of Tyler; two step-daughters, Debbie Sivils of Crossett and Joann Tucker and husband, Ronnie, also of Crossett; siblings, Melvin Lohrey of Rocky Ford, Colorado, Hazel Goebel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Pearl bowman of Speedwell, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a wife, Mae Lohrey; a grandson, Bryan Lohrey, and a daughter-in-law, Felicia Lohrey; siblings, Adolph, Edward, William, Paul Howard, Alvin “Dean” Lohrey, and Viola Mae Lohrey Mossop.
