Hazel Pearl Tidwell, 87, of Paris, former resident of Simms, passed from this life Monday June 3, 2013 at Paris Regional Medical Center. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Saturday June 8, 2013 in the chapel of Bates Family Funeral Home, 601 E. Front Street, DeKalb, Texas 75559 with Robby Bates officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Bayou Cemetery in New Boston.
The family will receive friends at Bates Family Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service.
Hazel was born February 13, 1926 in Beesville, Arkansas, one of ten children born to Albert and Mary Tucker Thompson. She moved with her family to Paris, where her father was a cotton farmer in Deport, and later moved to New Boston. She was a graduate of New Boston High School. In 1961 she married William Harding Tidwell, and moved with her family to Simms, Texas, where she became a member of the Simms Baptist Church. Aside from her family, her greatest joys in life came from gardening and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harding Tidwell in 2003. She was also preceded by two children, a daughter, Janice Lynn Fowler in 1958 and a son, Larry Wayne Fowler in 2003; as well as six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a son, Jr. Fowler and wife Carole, of Paris; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Jon Ross Fowler, of Plano and Blake Fowler, of Dallas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Named to serve as pallbearers are Jon Ross Fowler, Blake Fowler, John Jr. Youngblood, Richard Roy Thompson, Murray Young, Larry Dale Fowler, and Jr. Fowler.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family asks that one donate a book to his favorite library or make a contribution to the charity of one’s choice.
