Earlier this week a group of concerned citizens met with the owners of the new proposed recycling center that would be on Lamar Avenue at 42nd street (next to the Cave Wave car wash).
According to reports, the owners are resistant to moving the recycling center to a less visible location. Opponents say this location is at the gateway to the city for those coming in on Hwy 82 and too close to the entrance of the residential community of Morningside.
Moreover, contrary to prior reports, the owners admitted at the meeting that it would not be a completely enclosed building.
The concerned citizens group has asked the City Attorney to review the zoning classification which would allow the city to issue a building permit. The group’s understanding is that this location is zoned Commerical Retail and that a recycling center is not retail.
