Reno Mayor William Heuberger, in recognition of his commitment to continuing education, was recently a recipient of the Texas Municipal League Institute (TMLI) designation of Certified Municipal Official.
This designation was presented at the TMLI Awards Presentation at the TML-AMCC Elected Officials’ Conference on Saturday, February 14, 2015, in San Marcos.
This honor is presented to those individuals who completed 72 or more continuing education units during the 2014 calendar year and is the top honor in the TMLI program. The 72 CEUs must include two hours of open government training. Only 47 Certified Municipal Official designations were earned statewide.
This is the fourth consecutive year Mayor Heuberger has received the Certified Municipal Official designation.
The TMLI program is designed to enhance the leadership and problem-solving capabilities of Texas’ elected city officials. Participants are offered educational sessions on legal issues, budgeting, governance, personnel, and more.
Reno Council members Walter Cooper, Brandon Thomas and Amanda Willows along with Mayor Heuberger attended the conference. Over 200 elected officials from all over the state attended the conference, which was sponsored by both TML and the Association of Mayors, Councilmembers and Commissioners. TML is a voluntary association of more than 1,140 Texas cities. The City of Reno is a member of the Texas Municipal League.
The conference provided elected city officials —mayors, councilmembers, and commissioners—the opportunity to voluntarily enhance their knowledge of city government, sharpen their leadership skills, and connect with elected officials from across Texas to discuss how other cities cope with similar governance and leadership challenges.
During this event, conference attendees joined in a number of educational sessions on topics that included leadership, emergency management, transportation funding, community engagement, and more.
