Paris Community Theatre is presenting the hilarious play “5 Women Wearing the Same Dress” March 13-15 and March 19-22.
The play, set in Knoxville Tennessee focuses on five identically clad bridesmaids who are hiding out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the wedding reception below.
They are Frances (played by Tori Hunt) a painfully sweet but sheltered fundamentalist; Mindy, (played by Jill Drake) the cheerful, wise-cracking lesbian sister of the groom; Georgeanne, (played by Melanie Fowler) whose heartbreak over her own failed marriage triggers outrageous behavior; Meredith, (played by Kacy Mills )the bride’s younger sister whose precocious rebelliousness masks a dark secret; and Trish, (played by Sherry Scott ) a jaded beauty whose die-hard cynicism about men is called into question when she meets Tripp, (played by J.D. Davidson ) a charming bad-boy usher to whom there is more than meets the eye. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of the women’s spirit.

The play is directed by Sydney Young and sponsored by Louise W. Hagood.
Director Sydney Young says of the play, “The show is fun — it is after all the pre-curser to Sex and the City – and it has so much heart that we’ve all fallen in love with it. Women are fascinating, imperfect and complicated. Come of age women in the 90s had much to deal with and these ladies are not afraid to talk about it in their own language, in the midst of the pathos and magic of the wedding, Perhaps I love this play so much because these are the conversations that I’ve had with my friends.”
5 Women Wearing the Same Dress contains adult themes, situations and language and is intended for mature audiences only.
