The Paris Community Theatre has just released its 2015-2016 season: “A Season of Love.” Pending final approval from the publishers, these are the exciting, moving, and laugh out loud.
The season will open with an Off-Plaza production of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The site of this production is still being decided, but this is a fast-paced, witty comedy, and a fantastic love story.
The second show is a musical adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved Little Women. Recent Disney films like Frozen and Brave have put the spotlight on sisterly love and the bond between mothers and daughters. Little Women has a similar focus, and also has a beautiful score with music audiences won’t soon forget.
Next, will be Christopher Durang’s smash hit comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Winner of the 2013 Drama Desk and Tony Awards, the show is currently the most produced show by community theatres in the U.S. The original cast included David Hyde-Pierce (Frasier, Spamalot) and Sigourney Weaver (Alien).
For the Holiday Season PCT will present the family-friendly Uh-Oh! Here Comes Christmas! This gem of a show is a stage adaptation of the works of Robert Fulghum, who is best known for his book All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. The show includes a small chorus of Scrooges, a big family wedding, and a LOT of poinsettias.
January 28th, 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the Challenger space shuttle disaster. PCT will be honorong the men and women who dared to go to the stars with the beautiful drama Defying Gravity. The play is a free-form look at the disaster through the eyes of a teacher in space and her daughter, Monet, the Impressionist painter, a funny and quirky retired couple in their RV and more. Talkback sessions and other educational outreach will be offered with this production.
In February, Off-Plaza will present the delightful play Love Letters. This story of lifelong love will charm couples of all ages, and is a special Valentine gift from PCT to Paris. Expect this show to be at a romantic location, perfect for a Valentine date-night.
Two musicals finish out the season, the hilariously funny and satirical Chicago, and the moving Children of Eden. Chicago is famous for its catchy tunes and Fosse-style movement. The play celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2016 alongside PCT.
Children of Eden celebrates several chapters in The Book of Genesis. Act I introduces Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, and Father, and Act II is the exciting story of Noah and the flood. This is a show entire families can participate in, and will include a big children’s chorus to portray the Parade of Animals onto the Ark. The score is unforgettable and features the music of renowned composer Stephen Schwartz, best known for his musicals Godspell and Wicked.
