During Monday evening’s City Council meeting, the members voted unanimously to change two downtown streets from one-way to two-way.
Price Street and Houston Street, both currently one-way streets, will be converted into two-way within the next two weeks.
However, the Council decided to wait on making a decision on whether 3rd S.W. and 2nd S.W. will also be changed to allow two-way traffic, and will hold a public forum on the issue first.
The cost to make the change is estimated at $6500.
The Council also decided to eliminate the inside lane of the 300 block of Clarksville Street in downtown next to the First United Methodist Church and put in instead parallel parking spaces.
The public should be on the lookout for new signs and temporary flags while the roads are repainted.
