letwyn001Gertrude Miriam Letwyn, 92, of Paris passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 in Magnolia, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday March 27 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Anthony Stoeppel officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow at 6:30.

Gertrude was born October 29, 1922 in Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada a daughter of  Antti and Ingrid  Perkio. She moved to Texas in 1952 with her husband and two children.  She was married to Gerald Letwyn for 47 years until his death in 1989. She was married to William “Bill” Bangert for 10 years until his death in 2006.  She and her husband Gerald ran a dairy in the Tigertown area for many years. She was also was employed by Campbell Soup Company.

Whether it be working as a “Rosie” the Riveter during WWII, milking the cows on the dairy, running the noodle cutter at Campbell’s Soup, cheering at athletic events, or taking friends to activities at senior centers, she took pride in every endeavor. Her work ethic and zeal for life surpassed most and were admirable. As a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, her memories will be cherished forever. She lived in Paris since 1969 and was a member of Our Lady Victory Catholic Church and Primetime.

Surviving are her two daughters: Ellen Hakes Wethington and husband, Paul of Magnolia, Texas and Sheila Daughtrey and Gary Haagenson and her grandson Justin Daughtrey of Powderly. Five grandchildren: Rodney Hakes of New York City; Steve Hakes and wife Pam, and Scott Hakes of Magnolia; Darilyn Krempin and husband Zane of Little Elm, and Amy Ladd and husband Darren of Paris. Seven great grandchildren: Evan, Lauren, and Nathan Hakes, Zaden and Zander Krempin, Justin Daughtrey and Dallas Foster; Nieces, Verna Ross and Tina Hauta of Thunder Bay. Her dear friend, Velma Border of Paris and her beloved Boston terrier, Billy Boy.

Pallbearers will be Rodney, Steve, and Scott Hakes, Zane Krempin, Darrell Daughtrey, and Justin Daughtrey.
