Socks, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, first aid kits, snacks, and daily devotionals were packed into care packages by the North Lamar Panther baseball team for Van’s players and coaches.
Thursday night before the two began the area series of games, the Panthers presented the Vandals with the gift bags and a monetary donation of $1,565 to help team members and coaches with necessities lost in the tornado last weekend.
Additionally, a gift of $2,904 will be presented to Van ISD by North Lamar Superintendent John McCullough to help with the district’s recovery effort. The money was raised through a district-wide five dollar jean day for staff and high school students paying a dollar to wear a hat or cap.
In an email to all NL staff McCullough stated, “I want to thank everyone who donated money and supplies to Van ISD. They were truly grateful for everything that was presented to them last night. The baseball team and parents provided gift bags for every player and coach and we presented 2 checks to them for a total of $4464. Phil Spann took some items to Van this morning and when a lady found out he was from Paris and North Lamar she hugged him and started crying and talking about how much last night meant to them. I am blessed to work in a district that has a true heart and passion for giving and helping others. Thank you for setting a great example for our students and community.”
