Continuing Education in June at PJC

Pyro_PJC_SliderClasses appealing to a variety of interests are available in June from Paris Junior College Continuing Education. They include basic Driver’s Education or Life Support, training to become a nurse aide or learning conversational Spanish. Classes are offered in the Bobby R. Walters Workforce Training Center. The Driver’s Education class, approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety, meets from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 1-25.

Kids Hurt Too, a seminar designed to help parents understand their children’s needs throughout the process of a divorce, is offered Tuesday, June 2, 6 to 9 p.m.

Microsoft PowerPoint Level 1: Essentials covers the basics on using the presentation software. Learn valuable tips and tools for successful presentation including handouts, timing, and more. The class will meet Monday and Wednesday, June 8-15, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

QuickBooks Level 1 covers the popular record keeping software used by small businesses today. Learn to keep accurate records for more successful and profitable business management. The class is scheduled for Tuesdays, June 9-23, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Initial Basic Life Support class on lifesaving skills for respiratory and cardiac emergencies will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 12. The American Heart Association certifies the class.

A Nurse Aide class will be offered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, June 15-July 6, and the clinical meets Monday through Wednesday, 5:30 to 11:30 a.m., July 7-21. The class offers preparation for entry level nursing assistants.

In the Junior Law Enforcement Academy students (6th-9th graders) will visit a different location each day and learn about police operations, jail op¬erations and court procedures, as well as learn self defense moves and how to process a crime scene. The class will meet Monday through Thursday, June 15-18, from 1 to 4 p.

Conversational Spanish will instruct students in selected vocabulary, pronunciations and basic struc¬tures used by those employed, with an emphasis on conversation. The class will meet via interactive television on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 9-July 14, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The class is also available online beginning June 8; ask about this option when signing up.

American Sign Language teaches you the ABCs so words can be finger spelled, as well as words and phrases. The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 16-July 16, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Basic Life Support Recertification for CPR certified cardholders is offered from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16. The American Heart Association certifies the class.

Welcome to the World of Computers is offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 16-23. The course is designed for the person with limited computer skills. Student will learn basic computer tasks, keyboard techniques, computer lingo and how to navigate the Internet.

The Heartsaver First Aid CPR & AED (automated external defibrillator) class teaches basic first aid and CPR/AED procedures, including first aid skills recommended by the Occupational Safety and Health Agency, to those with a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency. The course meets Tuesday through Wednesday, 5:30 to 9 p.m., June 23-24.

Medication Aide Update will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 26. The course fulfills Texas Department of Health specifications on annual renewal requirement. Med Aides should take this course one month before their certification card expires.
