At 9:37 AM on Thursday, June 25th, Paris Police officers responded to a report of a man with a gun at the intersection of 7th SW Street and Bonham Street.
Officers arrived and found that he did not have a weapon and after that brief contact, allowed him to leave.
In just a few minutes, another call was received from the offices at the Paris Housing Authority Office regarding a vehicle trying to run over people and threatening PHA employees. Officers arrived to find this to be the same individual, parked in the roadway, effectively blocking the road. During that contact, the suspect refused to get out of the car but engaged the officers in a conversation regarding the end of time.
The suspect then sped off and officers pursued. The suspect led officers on a pursuit across the northern side of the city for about 8 minutes until pulling into the parking lot of the city swimming pool where an officer blocked his exit.
Officers took the suspect into custody at that time. It was determined that the individual was suffering from mental issues. He was placed under emergency detention and transported to a local health care facility for evaluation.
