jones003Mark G. Jones, fondly known as “Mustang Man,” saddled up Dude, his “bestest bull-dogging horse,” and moseyed toward his last sunset at his home in Paris, Texas, on Monday, July 6, 2015.  He was born on September 14, 1943, in Gum Pond, Arkansas, to Carol and Inez Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie, his son, Chad Jones, his daughter, Nicole Neilson, and his grandchildren, Abby and Zack Neilson and Mason Jones, all of whom live in Paris, Texas.  The fourth-born child, Mark is survived by his brothers and sisters:  Jane Bartlett and John and Ann Miller of Little Rock, Arkansas; Sam and Regina Jones of Austin, Texas; Jim and Lynn Clem of Paris, Texas; and Jack and Hilary Jones of McKinney, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Inez Jones, his father-in-law, S.D. Wynn, his mother-in-law, Jean Wynn, and his brother-in-law, Bruce Bartlett.

Prior to marrying his wife, Debbie, of forty-five years, he served his country in the United States Army, achieved the rank of Specialist E5, and fought in Korea and Vietnam.

Mark retired from his last business venture, J10 Special Products and Scales, in 2009, although he never retired from his numerous community services.  Mark served on the North Lamar Independent School Board of Trustees for many years and, at the time of his passing, was seated on both the Lamar Electric Cooperative and the Lamar County Water Supply District Board of Directors.  He believed in giving back to the community by his service.

Mark worked hard and played hard, squeezing all the sunlight he could out of each day.  One of his greatest loves was team roping, and he traveled from one end of Texas to the other and also ventured in to Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, competing in team roping.  His successes were evident by looking at his displays of belts, buckles, and saddles, not to mention by envying his cash awards, which brought the biggest grins ever!

The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8, 2015.  The funeral service will be held at Lamar Avenue church of Christ at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015, with Dr. John Cannon and Patrick Cannon officiating.  Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Buster, Earl Livingston, Bob “Mouse” Young, Durrell Roddy, Sammy Bolton, and Marty Sharrock.
