Gilliam0001Horace Greeley Gilliam, Jr., 66, of Powderly, passed away at his home Friday, January 24, 2014. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 27, 2014 at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Lyn Holley officiating. Burial will be in the Gilliam Family Cemetery in Boxelder. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8 p.m., Sunday, January 26, 2014.

Mr. Gilliam was born March 12, 1947 in Clarksville to Horace Greeley Gilliam, Sr. and Lillie Edna Garrett Gilliam. He lived in the Boxelder area until he graduated from Clarksville High School in 1965 and then moved to the Paris area. He received his Bachelor’s degree in personnel management from East Texas State University in 1971. He was honorably discharged after 6 years of service in the National Guard. His employment with Campbell Soup spanned 37 years prior to his retirement. He loved deer hunting and was an avid bow hunter. Fishing and shooting at the rifle range were also favorite hobbies. In his spar time he loved working in his framing shop. He also worked for Toyota of Paris, delivering cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a favorite Uncle & Aunt, J.D. and Mildred Nelson. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Gilliam of Powderly; three children, Jason Gilliam of Dekalb, J.C. Gilliam of Paris and Lori Lemons of Roxton; four children by marriage, Donna, Melissa, Tammy and Edwin, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Jason Cate, J.C. Gilliam, Jason Gilliam, Larry Pate, Roger Pate, and Zack Lemons. Honorary casket bearer will be Roy Dean Pate.
