Reno Police Department Officers arrested two males, one of which was a juvenile, for burglarizing a local resident’s vehicle.
Just after 4:00am on Tuesday August 25th, 2015 Reno Police made contact with two male subjects on bicycles near Fossil Creek Storage on Lamar Road carrying backpacks.
One of the males attempted to flee police, but changed his mind and immediately turned around to surrender. While speaking to the males, it was discovered that the two had burglarized a vehicle belonging to a resident in an adjacent neighborhood after finding pill bottles bearing the residents name, along with some ammunition. Officers then made contact with the resident who confirmed the burglary.
After the initial investigation, both subjects were transported to Lamar County Jail where they were booked in. The adult subject is identified as Jaelon Lyon, 17 years old of Paris. The 16 year old juvenile was booked in and released to his family without being held and his identity is not being released due to his age.
This incident brings the opportunity to remind citizens to do their part in preventing crime by locking vehicle doors and removing or hiding belongings before leaving them unattended. Reno Police has taken other reports of vehicle burglaries in recent days. In all cases reported, the actors made entry into the vehicle by simply opening an unlocked door. Simply locking your car door will prevent most vehicle break ins, but also removing or hiding valuables from plain sight will also lessen the chances of being a victim of a vehicle burglary even more.
Another thing to remind residents of is to report suspicious activity. If you see activity that is not normal, or some person or vehicle roaming the neighborhood that does not belong or one that you have not seen before; make note of it and call the police. It may not be anything, but it might turn into something later, or it could be a lead we have been waiting for. But you do not know until you report it.
Investigation will continue into this matter and it is unknown at this time if the crimes reported today are related to other recent crimes. However, if you have information about any recent vehicle burglaries that have occurred in Reno or the local area, please call Reno Police at
903-785-1744. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call crime stoppers at 903-785-TIPS (8477).
