carter blood careEvery 90 seconds, someone in the Carter BloodCare service area of North, Central or East Texas requires a blood transfusion.

The Results Companies is hosting a blood drive (from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) along with a hiring event (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) on September 11, at 3052 Clarksville Street. Look for the Carter BloodCare bus in the parking lot near the Sears store. The hiring event begins at 10 a.m. – an hour before the blood drive. Kelly Moss, with Results says that she hopes people will come early to investigate career opportunities and then relax while giving blood to benefit community patients.

Additionally, the blood drive continues until 5 p.m. – two hours after the hiring event closes. Participants will have the opportunity to attend both activities at the same location. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact The Results Companies at (903) 348-0689.

The Home Depot is also hosting a blood drive as part of the  “National Day of Service and Remembrance”from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, September 11 at 3120 NE Loop 286 in the parking lot on the Carter BloodCare bus. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, contact Kelly Hamill at (903) 782-0441.

There are six area trauma centers, a regional burn center and a host of cancer treatment facilities where patients rely on a safe and sufficient blood supply. There is no substitute for human blood. With just one pint donated, up to three patients’ lives are enhanced, prolonged or saved.

This September, Carter BloodCare and Cotton Patch Café are teaming up to give Carter BloodCare donors the chance to win a $50 gift card. Give a pint of ‘life’ and visit carterbloodcare.org for more information. Email bookablooddrive@carterbloodcare.org to start the easy process of setting up a blood drive in your community today.

It is a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water at least an hour before giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood.

Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for donating blood. For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
