Paris High once again ranks among the top high schools in Region 8 for earning distinction designations on preliminary campus accountability ratings recently released by the Texas Education Agency.
PHS earned 5 of a possible 7 designations for 2015. Among Region 8 high schools, only Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill and Texas High (6 each) earned more distinctions.
PHS received a accountability rating of Met Standard. Campuses that receive an accountability rating of Met Standard are also eligible for distinction designations based on achievement in performance indicators relative to a group of 40 campuses of similar type, size and student demographics. Distinctions can be earned for academic achievement in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Student Progress, Closing Performance Gaps, and Postsecondary Readiness.
For 2015 PHS earned distinctions for ELA, math, science, closing performance gaps, and postsecondary readiness.
“Earning any type of distinction under the state accountability system is commendable and should be a source of pride in a community,” said Commissioner of Education Michael Williams.
Since the state changed its accountability rating system three years ago based on STAAR end of course testing (from the previous TAKS testing system), PHS has consistently been among top performers in the region. The school has earned 12 of a possible 17 distinctions over that timespan, second among Region 8 high schools only to Chapel Hill (with 14).
