Joe Donald Mashburn, 67, of Howland, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at U.T. Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas following a short courageous battle with cancer.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22nd at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Parker officiating. Burial will follow in McDonald Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Mashburn, the son of Joe Denton & Christine Sanders Mashburn, was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Paris. He graduated from Paris High School in 1965, and received his Bachelors Degree from East Texas State University in 1968. Joe Donald was a lifetime member of Howland Baptist Church where he led the choir and was music director for many years. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was a farmer & rancher for many years in southwestern Lamar County. He was president of the Lamar County Farm Bureau for a number of years, on the Soil Conservation Board, FSA County Committee, was recognized as a Young Farmer of the Year, and was active in the American Agriculture Movement.
Joe Donald worked for the Production Credit Association in Sulphur Springs from 1985 until retiring in 2007. He then became Vice-President of the Texas Heritage National Bank in Sulphur Springs until his passing.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Ann King Mashburn, whom he married on May 2, 1964, daughters: Jody Hostetler & husband Joe Neal; Kristi Townes & husband Michael; Donna Durham & husband Patrick, his parents: Joe Denton & Chris Mashburn, sister: Anna Kay Zant, grandsons: Matthew Cannada, Jeffrey, Wesley & Aaron Hostetler, Pecos Hurley, Canyon & Jacob Boswell, granddaughters: Sierra Hurley & Breezy Townes, one great granddaughter, Aria Allen all of Howland, sisters-in-law: Marjorie Ford & husband Henry; Margaret Dicken; and Katy Peterson along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: David & Mary Ann Mashburn and Bud & Ola Sanders, a brother: David Glenn Mashburn, and a brother-in-law: Roger Peterson.
Joe Donald was a family man who loved the Lord and his family more than anything in this world. He had a slew of friends, never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face and had a laugh that people instantly fell in love with.
Casket bearers will be: Monty Cannada, Dwyatt Bell, Harvey McCoin, William Justiss, Tommy Alspaugh, Jimmy Don Preston, Gary Cope and Stevie Cope. Honorary bearers will be: Bubba Justiss and Bill King.
