sloweyDr James E Slowey age 67 of Powderly Texas died Tuesday, November 3rd  2015. Funeral Mass will be held @ 2pm on Friday, November 6th at Our Lady of Victory Church at 3300 Clarksville Street Paris, Texas. Father Anthony Stoeppel will officiate.

Jim was born February 4th 1948 in Forres, Scotland the third son of Francis and Margaret More Slowey. He married Carole Anne Fraser on July 15th 1970 in Elgin Scotland.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Carole A. Slowey of Powderly, Texas, his son Christopher Slowey and his wife Robin of Wichita Falls and two daughters Elaine Johnson and her husband John of Dallas and Dr Carole-anne Bouldin and her husband Brad of Jacksboro Texas along with seven grandchildren.  Caitlin and Connor Slowey, William, James and Callum Johnson, and Colin and McKenna Bouldin.

Jim is also survived by three brothers Frank Slowey and wife Alison,of Elgin Scotland, Kevin Slowey and wife June of Inverurie Scotland, and Alastair Slowey and wife Patricia of Brockville Ontario Canada, two sisters Irene Hepburn and husband Ian of Seattle Washington, and Margaret Livingstone of Auckland, New Zealand,as well as nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Medical School at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 1973. After 10 years in private practice he enrolled in Anesthesia Program at UTSW @ Dallas and completed a residency in Anesthesia in 1986.

In his professional career he practiced medicine in Canada, North Dakota and largely in Texas which he considered his second home. He retired in 2012. In his retirement he loved to work on his classic cars and spent many hours in his shop and on his tractor working on projects.  He loved to fish in Canada.

His request was that in lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Texas Institute for Brain Injury & Repair @ UTSW Medical Center, Dallas, Texas.

bates001Our beloved mother and grandmother, Billie Ruth (Lee) Bates, of Blossom went to her eternal home on November 3, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.  She died at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services are set for 10:00 am, Friday, November 6, at East Post Oak Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow in East Post Oak Cemetery under the direction of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 Thursday evening at the funeral home.

She was born August 15, 1934, in the Post Oak community, and was the daughter of John William “Bill” and Rhoda Lou Lee. She married Alvis Bates on Sept. 5, 1953, in Mount Pleasant. Billie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who prayed unselfishly for her family. She was a member of East Post Oak Missionary Baptist Church for over sixty-nine years where she attended all of her life. Kingdom work was her passion.

 Billie Ruth retired in 1992 from Blossom Elementary School after 16 years of service in the cafeteria and was remembered by many students whose lives she impacted. Billie Ruth previously worked at Westinghouse. She served tirelessly and selflessly in her church and to her Lord and was a pillar in the community. Billie was a trusted and loyal friend to many and felt it was her duty to care for the less fortunate. All who knew her were blessed by her loving heart and kind spirit. Even in death, she continues to be a beacon for her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wallace Lee and Wilbourne Lee and infant brother; and her husband Alvis Bates of 53 years.

Survivors include her two children, daughter Pattie Bates and son Mark Bates and wife, Tammie. Grandchildren are Lisa Mullens and spouse, Paul, Chad Long and spouse Ginger, Amanda Long, Stephanie (Nickie) Hutchings and spouse Erik, Aaron Bates and spouse Angela, and Leah Morales and spouse Edgar. Her 12 precious and greatly blessed great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren will miss her dearly. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Aaron Bates, Paul Mullens, Erik Hutchings, Edgar Morales, Chad Long and family friend, Darrel Vaughn.
