dobbsBillie Laverne Dobbs, 82, of Paris, Texas, passed away following a lengthy illness on Sunday, June 15, 2014.

The youngest of nine children, Billie grew up in Oklahoma during the years following the Great Depression. After graduating from Atoka High School in 1949, she worked as a court reporter before she married and became a homemaker and a loving mother of three.

In 1997, they built a home near Paris, Texas, and spent their retirement years enjoying extended camping trips, local bluegrass music events, and country-western dancing. Although petite, Billie played basketball in high school for the Atoka Wampus Cats. She maintained her lifelong interest in the sport, frequently cheering on youth teams. She was a dedicated Dallas Mavericks fan who welcomed the start of each new season with great enthusiasm.

In 2000, she received a liver transplant, which blessed her family and friends with 14 more years of her love and attention. In acknowledgment of the efforts and devotion of medical transplant teams, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to the Southwest Transplant Alliance.
