North Lamar High School students participating in University Interscholastic League (UIL) academics are preparing for district by attending invitational or practice meets in the local area.
Host schools abide by UIL rules just as they do in UIL district, regional and state meets.
The NLHS Speech and Debate team earned the Speech Championship at the Mt. Pleasant meet on January 30, 2016. Those contributing and placing individually are:
Heather Armstrong – 6th place in Math, 6th place in Science
Jordan Walters – 1st in Informative Speaking, 6th in Prose, quarter finalist in Cross Examination Debate
Kay Edwards – 3rd in Informative Speaking, earned Top Speaker
Jake Chollet – 1st in National Speech and Debate Association Lincoln- Douglas Debate, 2nd in UIL Lincoln-Douglas Debate, 4th in Informative Speaking
Julian Tellez – 8th in Informative Speaking
Colin Hodgkiss – 5th in Persuasive Speaking, quarter finalist in Cross Examination Debate
Mackenzie Beckmon – 1st in UIL Lincoln-Douglas Debate, 2nd in National Speech and Debate Association Lincoln-Douglas Debate, 6th in Poetry
Kay Edwards and Zach Huffman – 3rd in Cross Examination Debate
Mason Ramaley – quarter finalists in Cross Examination Debate
