Using the Power of Eminent Domain is on Paris City Council Agenda

city council 2015The Paris City Council will meet in regular session at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the City Council Chamber, located at 107 E. Kaufman Street.  The meeting is open to the public.

A resolution is on the agenda for the City of Paris to use the power of eminent domain to acquire the necessary utility easements or fee simple interest in certain properties of the City of Paris and/or Lamar County for completion of new utility lines.  Eminent Domain is the right of a government to take private property for public use.

Members will also discuss and act on a request for funding for the Paris Metro route.  This is a fixed bus route system four that would operate two buses traveling four routes throughout the city every weekday. Seniors and the disabled would be able to ride for free.

The council will hold  the first public hearing on an Ordinance dis-annexing two tracts of land in the Wildwood Estates Subdivision.

They will also receive public input, discuss and act on a Resolution in support of the Brownstone Group Inc.’s Application to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), and the proposed development of Paris Senior Village to be located at the Southeast corner of Sunrise Drive and 42nd Street NE.  This development would be an 80 unit rental housing community for adults aged 55 and up.

The council will also discuss the Paris Economic Development Corporation’s budget for fiscal year 2015-2016 and award a bid and approve an agreement with Richard Drake Construction Company, LP, for South Collegiate Drive Reconstruction from Clarksville Street to Big Sandy Creek Bridge.

A new Airport Hangar Ground Lease will be decided on as will dis-annexation proceedings from several property owners on FM 79.
