Parker0001Barbara Dean Taylor Parker Daybreak (6:00 a.m.) August 20, 2014, began Barbara Dean’s peaceful journey to Heaven joining her sons, Charles Todd Harvey and Tracy Gravan Harvey, grandson, Trey Harvey, and her loving parents, Winona Gordon Taylor and J. B. Taylor. What a celebration of love began that Wednesday!

Barbara was born Oct. 7, 1939. She attended Paris schools. Barbara was known for being a respectful and caring daughter, her quick wit, devoted mother, easy going nature, her awesome cabbage rolls, being a loyal friend, loved the Dallas Cowboys, baked yummy chocolate pies, and with her American Indian/French genes was a natural beauty all her life. Tragically Todd was taken in 1982. Losing her other son, Tracy, in 1996 was yet another family tragedy. After J.B. (1997) and Winona’s (2006) passing, Barbara and Harmon re-located to Marquez, TX hopeful of a joyful retirement. Sadly, failing health took them to separate nursing homes.

The last months of Barbara’s life were spent in Groesbeck, TX. She was cared for and shown much love and respect by the staff and hospice caregivers at Groesbeck LTC. Harmon spoke to his “Barbara Darling” one last time and shared his true love for her. Barbara had been waiting for Harmon’s call as mere hours later she took one last peaceful breath while her hospice nurse read from the Book of Psalms.

Barbara Dean is survived by her beloved husband, Harmon, and his family members, her grandson, Zachery Harvey, daughter-in-law, Denene Johnson, her “sister & brother-in-law of my heart” Rita Bonner Gilbert and Dr. Gary Gilbert along with many loving extended family members and friends.

Graveside services will be led by Reverend’s Virginia & Ralph Taylor at Meadowbrook Gardens (Garden of the Sundial) on Wednesday, Oct. 1st at 3:00 p.m. A special “time of remembering” will be held afterwards at Bethel Temple Church, 1315 SE Loop 286, Paris, TX 75460.

murr001RAYMOND DEE MURR, 83, of Paris, Texas, passed from this life Tuesday September 16, 2014 at Dubuis Hospital in Paris. Cremation arrangements were provided by Starrett Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 27, 2014.  He will be interred among his loved ones in Kingston, Oklahoma at a later date.

He was born August 5, 1931 in Kingston, Oklahoma, a son of Lawrence Chester (Ted) and Jewell Davis Murr. A graduate of Oklahoma schools, he received a degree from the University of Oklahoma in Petroleum Engineering. He had a successful career as a Branch Chief with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Raymond served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his military career he made many lifelong friends, many of which he enjoyed seeing at reunions throughout the country as he, his wife, and their pets traveled by R.V. His keen mind and technical abilities made him a consummate “do-it-yourself-er,” and he enjoyed these abilities for the benefit of family and friends. He was a sports fan and avid golfer, and loved to watch old Westerns. He was a staunch member and supporter of the N.R.A., had a firm belief in the rights and freedoms of all Americans.

He married the love of his life, Imo Jean McAdoo in 1953 in Tampa,Florida, and together they spent a lifetime of love, service, and commitment. Life brought hope and success, but their lives were tendered a tragic loss with the death of their precious daughter Susan Leslie Murr. The painful lessons learned on the dark road of grief and loss presented a clear choice: that of becoming bitter, or better. Choosing the latter, they became intensively involved with Compassionate Friends, an organization dedicated to helping those who have lost children to death. They were instrumental in establishing a Chapter of Friends for parents who have lost their only, or all of their children, once again sharing lessons taught by deep, personal grief with other parents in similar pain.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife Imo Jean, and a sister, Jerena Rodriquez, of Washington, Oklahoma; a nephew, Wayne Rodriquez; and a great-nephew, Ross Rodriquez, both of Washington, OK.

Friends may register in Raymond’s Book of Memories at www.starrettfunerals.com .

Barbara HarrisHeaven gained a very special angel on Friday, September 26, when God suddenly called home our precious MomMom, Barbara Lou Fields Harris, in a car accident.  She will be sorely missed.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 2:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29th, at Oak Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Judi Brandt and Rev. Steve Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Her loving and capable hands and caring smile were always present when someone was in need; she never said no to any request, especially when it came from one of her grandchildren.  Barbara was born on April 7, 1940, in Lamar County, the daughter of Vernon Fields and Margie Essary Fields.  She graduated from Delmar High School in 1958 and East Texas State University in 1961, after which she began a career as a first grade teacher in Forney, Texas.  That career took a back seat, however, when she met Gus Harris, Jr., through their special friends Jimmy Don and Bobbie Lou Preston.  The two married on July 1, 1966, and she became a stay-at-home wife, mother, and grandmother to her much loved husband, daughters and grandchildren.  For 48 happy years, Gus and Barbara shared a life together in Hopewell, strengthened by the love and support of many friends and family.  For many years, until the church closed its doors, the two were a driving force of Hopewell United Methodist Church.  Since then, Barbara has been an ever-present and hardworking member of Oak Park United Methodist Church in Paris, where she plays the piano for the Gleaner’s Sunday School Class.  She was the secretary of the Hopewell Cemetery Association, a member of the Lamar County Historical Society, and the Red River Valley Tractor Club, and the secretary of the Hopewell Community Center.  She and Gus were among those who helped oversee the founding of the Lamar County Historical Society’s museum in downtown Paris.

Barbara is survived by her Husband, Gus, daughters and sons-in-law, Dennis and Kristi Hodgkiss and Alice and Greg Hignight, all of Hopewell; her grandchildren Carver Hodgkiss and fiancé Aerial Wesberry of Tyler, Colin and Katie Hodgkiss of Hopewell, Grace Hignight of Hopewell and Garon Hignight of Paris, and Ashley Carney and husband Jesse of Durant, Oklahoma; her sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Gary Cope; her brother and sister-in-law Benny and Cheryl Fields; her brother-in-law Charles Arnold; nieces and nephews Hope Hughes and husband Scott, Kevin Nimmo and wife Mona, Paul Fields, DeAnn Anderson and husband Terry, Tommy Arnold and wife Lorie, and Stephen Arnold and wife Sheri, as well as many great nieces and nephews and cousins, all of whom she adored.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Margie Fields.

Casket bearers will be: Tommy Arnold, Stephen Arnold, Paul Fields, Kevin Nimmo, Jimmy Don Preston, Larry Cunningham, Gerald Harris & Perry Neeley. Dick James will serve as an honorary bearer.
