Maurice was born in Nida, Oklahoma on October 8, 1918. She was the eighth of nine children born to Jim and Bertha Rogers and spent her childhood and early years on the family cotton farm near Nida.
Maurice graduated from high school in Tishomingo, Oklahoma the attended Murray State College. Following college, she was employed in Ft. Towson, OK, and while there she met the love of her life James (Jim) Loar. They were married in Washington, D.C. November 4, 1944. During the remainder of World War II Maurice worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C., while her husband was deployed on Atlantic convoy duty with the U.S. Navy.
The couple and their two daughters, Mary Lee and Glenna Marie moved to Farmington, New Mexico in 1951. Maurice became the office manager for Southern Union Gas Production Company. She retired in 1980 to become a full time homemaker. Maurice and Jim moved to Paris, Texas in 1994.
Maurice was preceded in death by her husband Jim Loar, her daughter Glenna Marie Loar, three brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mary Lee and Lee Fossum; brother-in-law Charles D. Loar; sisters-in-law Mary Loar and Loy Swink; loving niece Jeannie Kay Loar; special great nephew Gabriel Dill; the California girls Pete Young and Ann Crossland; next door neighbor Christy Wendell; extended family and friends.
Throughout her long and wonderful life she maintained a strong moral and work ethic. She was devoted to and spoiled her husband, daughters, and son-in-law. Her home and family were the center of her life and the kitchen was the center of her home.
Maruice loved to play the piano, both for her own enjoyment and to entertain others. She never had a piano lesson. She could listen to a song, sit down at the piano, and simply play that song. She was especially fond of playing the honky-tonk music that was so popular when she was young.
She enjoyed life and was fondly referred to as “the Queen.” She kept everyone on their toes wondering what she might spontaneously say or do next.
During the last year of her life she was unable to leave her home and received loving care and comfort from her caregivers and new extended family Willie Spencer, Patsy Kelley, Paulette Richardson, Darla Man and Christie Daniel who will also serve as pallbearers.
