rabbit hole“Rabbit Hole” opens Thursday, October 9th at 7:30 PM at the Paris Community Theatre.  Additional evening performances on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th at 7:30pm and a matinee at 2:30 PM on October 12, 2014.

Rabbit Hole, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2007, is for mature audiences because it centers on a couple, Becca and Howie Corbett, who lost their young son in a life-shattering accident.  The play tells the story of a family who has everything they could want until the accident turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting perilously apart.  It is a story of loss, grief and forgiveness.

“Rabbit Hole” is written by David Lindsey-Abaire and is being directed at PCT by John Presley Wright.  The cast and crew includes Robyn R. Huizinga as Becca, Ashley Pickering as Izzy, Mike Pickering as Howie, Lucia Bunch as Nat, and Stephen Bailey as Jason.  Lisa Martin is Assistant Director/Understudy; Samantha Scharett is Stage Manager; Sarah Dowell and Sarah Perkins are Director’s Assistants; and Christine Sheehan and Donna Massoud are Understudies.

Rabbit Hole is an Off Plaza production of Paris Community Theater and is not part of the regular season.

Off Plaza is a play series created by PCT to allow for local theater artists to experiment with works that deal with contemporary social issues and allows for a more non-traditional setting whether at the Plaza or elsewhere.   Off Plaza plays are one weekend only with general seating available to everyone.

Rabbit Hole is a small, technical set for a black box edgy feel.  There will be talk backs after the play, which was one of the highlights of the last Off Plaza production.

Director Jon Wright stated, “A talk back happens after the play, and is attended by those who are interested.  Here the talk back will focus on how to find help in Lamar County for grief—i.e. bereavement counseling and support groups.  As a person who has participated in directing, designing, acting and writing in over two hundred plays, this production especially appeals to me and will be of great benefit to our audiencies, community and theater.  It is a well written drama about parental grief after the death of a child.  For this and other reasons, it presents a great challenge and opportunity both for me and our theater.  We have counselors and other persons and groups that are accustomed to working with parents in grief, who will be on hand to offer talk back.”

Sydney Young, President of the Board of Directors, said “I just love this show and am excited about it, being Off Plaza and with screens/talk backs, the subject we are dealing with and helping people deal with it.  There has been a lot of tragedy in Paris (and perhaps always will be), and it seems some parts of our community have been hit awfully hard this year.  It’s coming a perfect time.”

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased on-line through Brown Paper Tickets or at the PCT office; telephone 903-784-0519.  Visit the PCT web-site at www.pctonstage.com for continuing up-to-date information about Paris Community Theater.
