The Paris City Council voted Monday night to approve pay raises to nearly two-thirds of City of Paris employees.
One of the departments that will see pay increases is the Fire Department. Forty-seven of the department’s 51 firemen will receive a raise, those not receiving raises are probationary firefighters who will be eligibie after one year of service.
The Paris Police Department will also see raises, with twenty officers receiving an increase in pay. Twenty-one paramedics received raises last month.
City Manager John Godwin (pictured right) was emphatic Monday night that the raises were needed.
The raises will cost the city close to $150,000. Raises are set to begin January 1, 2015.
