The Stone Middle School drama team competed in their first UIL One Act Play competition with their presentation of Bobby Wilson Can Eat His Own Face. Their performance earned the first place middle school trophy for North Lamar.
The comedy, written by Don Zolidis, paints the tough life of Bobby Wilson. His mom doesn’t trust him, his little sister is pure evil, and his school life is a disaster. After getting in trouble at school (through no fault of his own) for both sexual harassment and terrorist threats, he decides to do the only thing he can: run away and join a circus freak show.
Rules for the competition are strict. Cast members had seven minutes to set up the stage, forty minutes to perform the play, and seven minutes to tear down the set. Total time could not be over 54 minutes or the cast would be disqualified.
“I’m so proud of these young students!” said Stone drama instructor Ashley Pickering.
Layne Lankford earned Best Actor for his portrayal of Bobby Wilson. Named to the All Star Cast were Aaron Blair, Payton Buck, Sadi English, McKenzie Mitchell, and Josie Zumalt. Honorable Mention All Star Cast went to Alec Asay, Garrett Cook, and Teagan Holley.
“And a special thanks to Cody Head (North Lamar High School drama instructor) for hosting this event and starting a middle school one act play in our district,” said Pickering.
Taking second place in the middle school One Act Play competition was Liberty Eylau followed by Paris who took third.
