Deborah “Debbie” Kent, 63, of Harlingen, formerly of Paris, passed from this life Monday August 12, 2013 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, following a lengthy struggle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday August 16, 2013 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Fortenberry officiating. Private burial will take place following the service in Meadowbrook Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
Debbie was born March 5, 1950 in Paris, the only child of Liberty Jesse and Ada Aline Sorrells Stroud. She was a graduate of Paris High School, then worked as an Abstractor for Stone Title Company, and later for Young Title. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, and was known to enjoy slot machines. She enjoyed the beach, and loved to travel with her grandchildren. She was the type of mother who instilled in her daughters the belief that there was nothing that they couldn’t accomplish, and encouraged them to follow their dreams. Her household was always open to friends, or those who had needs. She always did her best to meet those needs.
She married Bobby Jack Kent on January 31, 1969 in Paris. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2011.
In addition to her husband Bobby, she was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Debbie is survived by two daughters, Holley Tyler, of Harlingen and Christy Caldwell, of Dallas; two grandchildren, Serena Caldwell and Mikayla Evans; a step-brother, Eugene Rannals, of Amarillo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Named as honorary pallbearers are Billy Newman, Bobby Newman, Bobby McEwin, Chip McEwin and Chris McEwin.
