arm002Loreta Opal Konkle Armstrong, 95, of Powderly passed away March 29, 2015 in Paris Regional Medical Center.

She was born on June 22, 1919 in Caviness, Texas a daughter of John Raliegh Knkle and Isolah Coursey Konkle. She married Earl Armstrong in 1950 in Paris. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, children Jimmy Dale Chote, Jerry Wayne Chote ; and Helen Ruth Taylor and husband Fred; brother Wilbur M. Konkle, sister Voncile Wilson; grandchildren Joy, Terry and Rebecca.

She was a nurse’s aid.

She is survived by a daughter Glenda Earlene Grayson and husband Roger of Powderly; daughter in law Jane Chote grandchildren Vicki, Patsy,  Rhonda, Charmon, Vonda,  Lynn, Kathy, Sherry, Michael, Randy, Yvette and Donna; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in Meadowbrook Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Donald Morton officiating. Services are under the direction of the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home where online condolences may be sent by visiting www.fry-gibbs.com.

Freddy ObitFREDDY DEAN “PAP MITCHEL” SMITH, SR., 75, of Paris, passed from this life on Sunday March 29, 2015 at Paris Regional Medical Center. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday March 31, 2015 at Starrett Funeral Home, who will then entrust his services to the Welch Funeral Home 202 S. Fourth Street, Arkadelphia, Arkansas 71923. They will host a visitation from noon until 2:00 p.m. Thursday April 2, 2015 at the Third Street Baptist Church, 224 Crawford Street, Arkadelphia, with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Arkadelphia.

Freddy was born January 29, 1940 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, a son of Vance and Ruth Joslin Smith. He was a firefighter for the City of Arkadelphia, then started working along with his brothers in gas line construction. In 1976 became owner of Smith Construction, an installer and repair firm for gas lines. He was of the Baptist faith. Dad was a loving husband, father, and Pawpaw. One of his many joys was racing dirt track cars alongside his brothers and sons. He was also an avid Razorback fan. He dearly loved his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews: all his family; and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He married Ann McClure on September 16, 1958 in Manning, Arkansas.  She preceded him in death May 13, 1998.

In addition to his wife Ann, he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Carl, R.V.,  James “Pete” and wife Mary, Earl; and three sisters, Darnell Collins, Annie Lee Hickman, and Barbara Marion.

Survivors include three children, Rita Ragsdale and husband David, of St. Joseph, Missouri, Freddy Smith, Jr. and wife Gail, of Paris, and Michael Smith and wife Krystal, of Brookston; ten grandchildren, Michael Smith and wife Victoria, Ashley Smith, Roxy Ragsdale, Kacy Ragsdale and D.J. Andrews, Jennifer Bissell and husband Luke, Jessica Schwab and husband Samuel, Casey Giddens and husband Wesley, Caleb Baker, Jack Baker and wife Jessica, Jason Baker and wife Melissa; twelve great-grandchildren, Cayton and Ava Smith, Allison Bennett, Conner Waggoner, Cason and Jaxon Andrews,  Annslee Bissell, Riley Schwab, Landon and Wyatt Giddens, Kris Baker, Addison  Baker; four brothers, Vance Smith, Jr. and wife LaVaughn, Mickey Smith and wife Linda, James “Smokey” Smith and wife Claudette, and Robert Smith and wife Kathy; three sisters, Ruth Fulmer and husband Arvilee, Jean Smith, and Lois Jean Kinard.

englandPNDonald Ray England, 55, of Powderly passed away Saturday March 28, 2015 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday April 2 at the Gospel Lighthouse PCG in Powderly with Pastor Chris Kelley officiating. Cremation arrangements were made by Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

Donald was born September 6, 1959 in Andrews, Texas a son of Robert Lee England and Elizabeth (Houtchens) England McDowra. He worked in construction. He was a long time and very dedicated member of Gospel Lighthouse PCG.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Billy Wayne and Randy Earl England.

He is survived by a brother, Mike England and several nieces and nephews.
