A trio of Paris High powerlifters represented the school with top 10 finishes at the Texas Division 2 (Class 4A) State Championships Saturday in Abilene.
Junior Dennis Coleman had the top finish with a 7th-place showing in the 242-pound weight class. His series total of 1,535 pounds included a 625-pound squat, 335 bench press, and 575 deadlift. His weight class was won by Bullard’s Hunter Phelps with a 1,675 total.
Junior Xzavius Gray was 10th in the 148s with a total lift of 1,190. It included a 480 squat, 245 bench press, and 465 deadlift. Andrew Alvidrez of Seminole won that weight group with a total of 1,510.
Senior Qurdale Huff was 10th in superheavyweight. He had a 650 squat, 375 bench press, and 560 deadlift for a total of 1,585. Joseph Pena of San Antonio Holy Cross was the winner with a 1,830.
Jourdanton was the overall team champion with 10 points.
