On Friday, October 9, 2015, Campaign Volunteers, Agency Partners, and Local Community Members, met at the Lamar County Human Resource Council, located at 1273 NW 19th Street.
Says Executive Director April Carl, “This is the 4th week of our 8 week campaign and we’re making great progress.
“Lucille has lived independently since her husband passed 20 years ago. Until last year when she fell and broke her hip. After many months in the hospital, and rehab she was eager to get home. However, her healthcare providers would not allow her to remain at home without support services. One of the services they require….. A hot nutritious meal EVERY day!!
With funding from the United Way of Lamar County the Lamar County Human Resources Council – Meal on Wheels program provides a hot nutritious meal to over 800 homebound seniors and disabled individuals each day. The volunteers that deliver these meals, also provide the only interaction these people will have with another human being all day. Feeding not just their tummy, but also their emotional well-being.
We’re happy to report, Lucille has made a full recovery and is still living independently in her own home.”
This year 100% of our $600,000 Campaign Goal will go toward Community Impact Grants, awarded to our 21 Partner Agencies: American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts NETSEO, Children’s Advocacy Center, Dylan’s Drivers, ETCADA, Girl Scouts NETX, Habitat for Humanity, Imagination Library, Lakes Regional MHMR – Innovative Enterprises, LC Child Welfare Board, LC Coalition of Education, Business & Industry, LC Human Resource Council, LC Literacy Council, New Hope Center, RRV Down Syndrome Society, RSVP, SAFE-T, The King’s Daughters & Sons, & The Salvation Army.
