Princeton Ends Cats' Unbeaten Start

philip sikesAn incredible start to the 2016 Paris High baseball season was halted Friday morning by a 12-1 loss to Princeton at the Krum Invitational.
Paris, now 7-1, began the tournament on Thursday with a pair of impressive wins over Crandall, 9-2, and host Krum, 8-0.

Thursday’s games:

  • Paris 8, Krum 0.  Junior righthander Phillip Sikes (picture by Joe Watson) surrendered his first hit of the young season, but struck out another 14 batters in 5 innings on the mound.  He walked 3 Bobcats and hit a batter.  Junior lefthander Corey Allen pitched the final inning and struck out 2 Bobcats.  The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Sikes, Phillip Nance, Zach Norris, and Cody Conway picked up 2 hits each.
  • Paris 9, Crandall 2.  Senior righthander Phillip Nance threw a complete game 3-hitter, and the Paris offense staked him to a 6-0 lead after 2 innings.   Nance struck out 8, walked 3, and hit 2 batters.  He helped his cause with a 4-for-4 showing at the plate with 2 RBI.  Tyler Sanders and Payton Barrios each provided a hit and RBI.
