Week three of the High School Football season is behind us, with three of the local teams in action. The Chisum Mustangs had their bye week, but the North Lamar Panthers, Paris High Wildcats and Prairiland Patriots were all in action.
Prairiland 29 – Clarksville 19
After starting out on the road for two straight games, the Patriots finally had their season opener. This game was close throughout. Prairiland held a slight 9-6 advantage after one, but Clarksville quickly took the lead in the second quarter and maintained it through the end of the third period. Leading 19-16 after three quarters, Prairiland outscored the Tigers 13-0 in the final frame to win the game. The Patriots are now 2-1 on the young season and will play at Cooper next Friday night.
Chapel Hill 51 – Paris High 41
The Wildcats traveled to Tyler to face the No. 7 ranked team in the state in Chapel Hill. This game was close early as both teams traded scores back and forth. Chapel Hill, however, jumped out to a 34 – 20 lead early in the third quarter and then the Wildcats had to try and play catch up the rest of the game. Paris did their best to stay in the game but, in the end, Chapel Hill was too much. With the loss, Paris drops to 2-1 on the season and will face Palestine next Friday on the road.
North Lamar 24 – S & S 22
North Lamar remains undefeated in 2014 as they hold on for a dramatic win in Sadler, Texas. After giving up a safety 40 seconds into the game, North Lamar scored 24 unanswered points. Leading 24 – 2 with about nine minutes to play, S & S scored 20 points in approximately eight minutes. However, a failed two point conversion with 1:36 left to play sealed the win for the Panthers. North Lamar is now 3-0 and will face Anna next Friday night at R.L. Maddox Stadium for homecoming.
