In the early morning hours of last Friday, September 26, 2014 around 3:30am Lamar County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to disturbance regarding a man with a gun at a residence on Walnut Street in the Blossom Community.
When Deputies arrived they made contact with the female homeowner at the front door telling Deputies that there was a man with a gun inside the residence.
Deputies removed the female from the residence and were told that her child was still inside.
Deputies then were confronted by an armed male individual who started shooting at the Deputies. The Deputies engaged the male suspect outside the residence and the suspect was shot by Deputies and died of gunshot wounds on scene.
Deputies then made entry into the residence and secured the child and moved both the child and mother to safety.
It was learned that the male suspect had broken into the residence and threatened to kill the female homeowner and her child. The male suspect is identified as a Steven Paul Presley w/m 34 years old. Deputies learned that Presley is an ex-boyfriend to the homeowner.
Presley made entry into the residence through a front window after removing the AC unit.
The Texas Rangers were called to the scene and the investigation of this shooting is being conducted by the Texas Rangers.
The Deputies are on administrative leave with pay pending outcome of the investigation.
