food-pantry-003-150x150The Downtown Food Pantry has announced they have a new website. Their homepage is at www.downtownfoodpantry.org.

In addition to having more information about the food pantry and ways to volunteer, the newest component is online giving. By simply clicking on the “Donate Now” button in the upper right-hand corner of the homepage, visitors to the site can give online. You can give a one time donation, or register to become a regular weekly or monthly donor.  Donors can use a credit/debit card or the donation amount can be drawn automatically from your checking or savings account. Any amount will make a difference in feeding the hungry of Lamar County.

It takes between $15,000-$20,000 per month to feed 4,000 families that visit the food pantry every month.

The Downtown Food Pantry began in a 12’x12′ Sunday School Classroom on the bottom floor of the First United Methodist Church in Paris Texas. In April of 2009 they moved into the old 700 sq ft. Co-Ministry building  on Clarksville Street. They moved into their current building (8,700 square feet) at 124 W. Cherry St. on April 5th, 2011.

Volunteers are always needed too. It takes between 3-40 volunteers to run the pantry during open hours. The pantry is open Tuesdays from 1:30pm-4:40pm and Thursdays from 8:30am-11:30am.

Visit the Downtown Food Pantry website at  www.downtownfoodpantry.org. for more information.
