Stone Middle School eighth grade students recently began using Chromebooks to help enhance their math scores. Chromebooks are a new type of computer designed to get things done faster and easier. They run Chrome OS, an operating system that has multiple layers of security, cloud storage, and the most popular Google products built-in.
Stone Math Lab instructor Janie Sharrock said, “With the new computers, students in the math lab access a program called Study Island that enriches skills the students will be assessed on when taking the STAAR test.”
North Lamar purchased 468 Chromebooks that can be used in all classes with emphasis to be used in the core subjects. The district is also purchasing new learning systems such as the Renzulli Learning Systems for the students to use with the new computers.
“By the end of this semester, every 7th and 8th grade student will have a Chromebook to use during school time,” said NLISD Technology Coordinator Glenda Parson.
