City of Paris Fire Marshal Dale Maberry announced today that several area fourth graders received trophies from the Paris Fire Department for a posters contest promoting fire safety and prevention.
Fire Prevention Week is officially October 5th-11th but due to the volume of activities unofficially the entire month of October is Fire Prevention Month. Over 400 fourth grade students turned in posters from Chisum Elementary School, Bailey Intermediate School, Aikin Elementary School, Justiss Elementary School, and Trinity Christian Academy and participated in this year’s program.
Firefighter Cade Oats facilitated this year’s poster contest by visiting the schools and inviting them to design a poster with fire prevention and fire safety as the theme. Each finalist was selected from each school received a trophy proclaiming them as a 2014 Poster Contest Finalist.
The 2014 Fire Prevention Poster Contest finalists are:
CISD Chisum Elementary: Peyton Holland, Jacob McNeal, Jayden Bradberry
NLISD Bailey Intermediate: Alaina Gentry, Koehler High, Searrinnah Seng
PISD Aikin Elementary: Grace Lowery, Sophia Hamer, Elise Napier
PISD Justiss Elementary: Johnathan Jones, Padme Carrillo, Nakayla
Trinity Christian Academy: Jehma Nesbit, Nathan Dyck, Cord Crawford
All finalists were present at Paris Fire Station #1 on Tuesday October 28, 2014, to receive their trophies and announce the overall winner. The students were accompanied by Principals, Teachers and Family members.

The overall winner was selected by a team of firefighters using an objective scoring system based on originality, content, neatness, and clarity. The results were close but Peyton Holland from Chisum emerged as the 2014 Poster Contest Winner. Peyton Jones received a framed fire service badge proclaiming her the 2014 Fourth Grade Poster Contest Winner.
