Joe Mark McDowell, 90, of Paris passed away Tuesday December 4, 2012 at Brentwood Terrace Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at Fry Gibbs Funeral Home, Friday Dec. 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Ken Cannon and Rev. Robert Myre officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour before service from 1 until 2 p.m.

Joe was born September 27, 1922 in Paris a son of Joseph and Pearl Roden McDowell. He married the love of his life, Frances Laverne Shelton on August 1, 1947 at First Baptist Church in Paris. They were married for 52 years and after her death he married Lou Ragsdale on Oct. 15, 1998. She also preceded him in death. He served his country proudly during WWII in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines. He then attended A&M University earning an Engineering Degree. He retired from Texas Department of Transportation as a District Construction Engineer. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed puttering around in his shop. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by three children, Tamara Echols and husband Tommy, Mark McDowell and wife Cindy and Felix McDowell and wife Kathy, all ofParis.  Grandchildren Brent Echols, Lance Echols and wife Patti, Clint Echols and wife Brittany, Colter McDowell, Tasha McDowell Brumbalow and husband Austin,  Blayne McDowell, Trent McDowell, all of Paris, Mackenzie McDowell from Frisco and Chad McDowell from North Carolina, as well as ten great grand children and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Lee Gorley, 54, of Paris, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Morgan White officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A time of visitation will begin at 5:00 PM, Friday afternoon followed by the Rosary service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth was born October 8, 1958 in Borger, Texas to Linnard Earl and Virginia Lee Hackney Gorley. He graduated from Paris High School and attended Sam Houston State University majoring in art. He married Valentina “Del” Bautista on Independence Day of 1987 in Paris. Kenneth owned and operated Gorley Monument Company and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).

Survivors include his wife, Del Gorley; his daughter, Lesley Allison Gorley of Paris; his mother, Virginia Gorley of Paris; two brothers, Connie Dowel Green of Borger and Marvin Gorley and wife, TJ of Paris; one sister, Vadie Foster and husband, Wayne of Sulphur Bluff; nieces, Theressa Carrell of Dyke and Teri Green of Borger; and three nephews, Paul Green of Amarillo, Weldon Foster of Cooper, and Collin Foster of McAllen, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father.

Pallbearers will be Mark Cone, Dane Temporal, George Tabangcora, Weldon Foster, Wayne Foster, and Collin Foster.

Mary Helen Price, 89, of Paris, passed from this life Tuesday December 4, 2012 at Heritage Care Center of Paris. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday December 7, 2012 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home, with Rev. Van Lazaroff officiating. Interment will follow in Chicota Presbyterian Cemetery, where she will rest beside her husband Gaines.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
Mary Helen was born December 11, 1923 in Chicota, the daughter of Alvin Lynn and Irene Rebecca Jeffries Caviness. She was a graduate of Paris High School, and attended Paris Junior College. She was of the Methodist faith.
She married Gaines Miller Price on December 6, 1942 in Paris. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2008.
Gaines joined the military during World War II and they travelled to Kentucky and other locations during his service. They eventually settled in Odessa, Texas, where Mary Helen worked in retail fashion and gifts as a salesperson. She gave birth to two daughters and was devoted to and found great joy in her family. She stayed home for the early years and later worked as a secretary at Ross Elementary School where her daughters attended.
It was an act of serendipity when Mary Helen discovered her love of antiques while shopping for a china cabinet. She ended up buying two antique cabinets and selling one for enough to cover the cost of the other. After that, she teamed up with Delora Kirby with whom she co-owned and operated the Red Door Antique shop in Odessa for many years.
She returned to Paris in 1975 and established Weathervane Antiques. Mary Helen was known for her expertise in both antiques and fine jewelry, and conducted many estate sales throughout the area.
She is survived by two daughters, Carla Gay Price and Cynthia Ann Price, both of Paris; six cousins, Ben Faber and Jeff Faber, both of Paris, Sarah Basden, of Arthur City, Mary Ann Roberson, John Holmes, and Col. Jamie N. Caviness.
Named as a honorary pallbearer is her friend and neighbor, Rev. Ray Starnes.

Linda Jane Holland Stiff, 67, of Paris, passed away Wednesday, December 05, 2012, at Dubuis Hospital.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Mackey officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery at Taylortown. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Linda, the daughter of Jim D. & Lora Mae Owens Holland, was born November 12, 1945, in Hopewell.

She attended Central High School. Her career with the Campbell Soup Company spanned 33 years before her retirement. She was a member of Glory Baptist Church.

Linda was a loving & kind person who enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, sewing, and mowing her yard. She always enjoyed being a caregiver to others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, James Franklin Clifton, a brother, Pete Holland and a sister, Jimmie Mae Hutchings.

Survivors include her husband, B. J. Stiff, sons, Carey Clifton & wife Tangy of Hopewell and Justin Stiff of Paris, grandchildren, Zachery Clifton & Kristena Campbell, Lauren Price & Cory Price, Haley Magnuson, Lachelle Magnuson, Bailee Adams, Rylee Adams, Meagan Birdsong and Dustin Birdsong, great grandchildren, Cali Birdsong and Lizzy Mae Price, her mother-in-law & father-in-law, Val & Jim Spiller, two brothers, Russell Holland & wife Linda and Buddy Holland and wife Cathy, a sister, Barbara Webster,  sisters-in-law, Lisa Short and Nancy Sublett & husband Hank along with numerous nieces, nephews, including Johnny Holland,  and a host of friends.
